Dr. Melissa is excited to bring Certified Animal Chiropractic services to the St Cloud and central Minnesota area! With her passion for animals starting as early as she can remember while growing up on a dairy farm, she gets true joy from bringing health back to animals and happiness back to their owners!! She graduated from Options For Animals College of Animal Chiropractic and is Certified with the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association. Animals she can treat include: dogs, cats, horses, and cattle.
Animals need chiropractic for the same reason humans do. Horses, dogs & cats suffer pain, soreness, stiffness & poor mobility, just like we do. Animals & humans are both vertebrates, which means they have spines and therefore all of the potential problems or injuries that come along with spines. Animals are prone to experience twists, falls, & injuries, suffering the same consequences as us. One main difference is they can't talk, complain, or use their pain as an excuse to avoid responsibilities or work.
Animal spines are very similar to human spines, one main difference being that we are upright beings using two legs and they walk on four legs. All mammals have exactly the same number of neck bones...seven. From mice to giraffes, all have 7 neck vertebrae. All mammals have thoracic (midback) spinal segments with ribs attached and lumbar (lowback)vertebrae, and although the numbers of bones in these areas differ a little from ours, the basic shapes and functions are quite similar. It's really quite remarkable when you think about it. Please see related forms below.

A chiropractor is a health care professional focused on the diagnosis and treatment neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine.
Most chiropractors seek to reduce pain and improve the functionality of patients as well as to educate them on how they can account for their own health via exercise, ergonomics and other therapies to treat back pain.
Chiropractic is generally categorized as alternative medicine or complementary medicine.
St. Cloud Chiropractors focus on the intimate relationship between the nervous system and spine, and hold true the following beliefs:
Biomechanical and structural derangement of the spine can affect the nervous system, and
for many conditions, chiropractic treatment can restore the structural integrity of the spine, reduce pressure on the sensitive neurological tissue, and consequently improve the health of the individual.
Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. DCs are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain and headaches...particularly with their highly skilled manipulations or chiropractic adjustments. St. Cloud chiropractors also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments and joints. These painful conditions often involve or impact the nervous system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction distant to the region of injury. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues, as well, since our body structure affects our overall function. St. Cloud chiropractors also counsel patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.
Chiropractic is well established in the U.S., Canada and Australia. It overlaps with other manual-therapy professions, including massage therapy, osteopathy, and physical therapy. Back and neck pain are the specialties of chiropractic but many St. Cloud chiropractors treat ailments other than musculoskeletal issues.
